University of West England

The University of the West of England (abbrev. UWE, often pronounced "you-we") is a university based in the English city of Bristol. Its main campus is at Frenchay, about 8 km north of the city centre. UWE also has a smaller campus at St Matthias, a Faculty of Health and Social Care at Glenside in north-east Bristol and an Art school, Bristol School of Art, Media and Design, located at Bower Ashton, near Ashton Court in south-west Bristol.
UWE is one of Britain's most popular universities, and is the biggest provider of higher education in the south west of England, with over 30,000 students and 3,000 staff.
Its history goes back to 1595 when the Merchant Venturers' Navigation School was founded. Part of this institution became a technical college which then became the Bristol Polytechnic in 1970.
UWE has an tremendous reputation for quality teaching. UWE was ranked fifth in England out of 83 Higher Education institutions, in the latest Teaching Quality Assessment league table which was published in the Times Higher Educational Supplement.
The UWE in trying to live up to the 21th century with a Student Village and a Centre for Sport. They have an investment programme of £200 million for new facilities.
For undergraduate students starting in 2009, the generally applicable fee for most full-time Home and EU students at UWE Bristol will be £3,225
